100+ Women Who Care
What started out as a handful of local women with the idea of “doing good” in our community, 100+ WOMEN WHO CARE has grown to well over 100 members over the past five years. Two of their founders, Susan Rieke and Janet Bacon spoke to our club this week about why and how they began their mission of meeting needs in Snohomish County. This core group of women thought, “if we could find 100 women willing to donate $100, collectively we could make a real impact for one non-profit.”
100+ Women Who Care partners with local non profits who could use additional funds and resources to meet specific needs for underserved populations. The idea of 100 women each giving $100 dollars, thereby generating $10,000 to be awarded to a non-profit took shape. Local non-profits were able to seek a monetary award from 100+ Women Who Care to supplement their own coffers, and provide much needed supplies and services to their clients.
Three times a year, a Giving Circle Meeting is scheduled at Sons of Norway in Everett for members to hear from potential recipients applying for the support. A vote is taken and the award recipient it notified within a week.
The quote on their marketing material is a quote from Anne Frank, a well recognized figure and an inspiration to women everywhere…. “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”
