Camp Fire Girls was founded in 1810 by Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick and his wife, Charlotte Vetter Gulick. They wanted to create an outdoor learning experience similar to what boys were being offered.
In the mid-70s the organization expanded beyond just female participants and became what it is known today, Camp Fire. Today, all are welcome to join in learning about nature, life skills, communication, how to be in community with others, and very importantly, how to value themselves.
Jeremy Gregerson, executive director for Camp Fire Snohomish County, shared an update at a recent meeting. It was like old home week, with several members noting they’d been involved with Camp Fire in their youth. One member’s mom had even been a leader!
Our club has a long history with Camp Fire Snohomish County, having scheduled an annual clean up day at Camp Killoqua (in Stanwood) for many years. Although we have not been there for a couple of summers, we have great memories of work parties and cleaning crews at that location.
Following the update, the Q&A was dominated by the VERY IMPORTANT question… what happened to the Camp Fire mints program? We knew that the partnership with Camp Fire and Brown&Haley had come to a close.
Jeremy shared that Camp Fire SnoCo has partnered with Puyallup Chocolates to offer quality chocolate treats, of which the sales continue to help support their programs. (Yes, please!)
